Setec awarded new design contract for Male international airport in Maldives
Setec group is gaining ground in the field of international airport engineering as it has just been awarded the global design contract for the new terminal of the Ibrahim Nasir international airport in Male (Maldives).
The construction of this exceptional terminal of 80,000 m2 (later extended to 100,000 m2) was entrusted to the Saudi Binladin Group (SBG).
The Male airport is located on the Hulhule Island which is entirely dedicated to the activities of the airport. The facility also includes transfer boat and seaplane dedicated terminals.
The new terminal will be half-marina and half-airport with numerous air-sea interfaces, requiring not only strong airport engineering expertise, but also geotechnical and maritime assets.
In the long run the new terminal will be 102,000 m2 with a 7.3 million passenger per year capacity, ensuring 1,741 departures / arrivals at peak hours. It will comprise 6 to 9 aircraft stands including one stand set for Airbus A380 airliners.
The Maldives airport authorities and the construction company SBG chose to rely on setec group's multi-disciplinary teams, complete BIM resource and functional / financial optimization solutions.
Setec is collaborating on this project with several sub-contractors, in particular the architectural firm 1pax and the Archetype Group for the final design.
