Morpho Detection, Inc., part of Morpho, Safran group’s security business, this week launched
a data collection study of its next-generation ShoeScanner™ at Indianapolis International
Airport (IND), one of the final steps in preparing this solution for regulatory approvals.
Morpho Detection’s latest-technology shoe scanning device (SSD) is designed to detect shoeborne
threats, allowing air travelers to be screened at security checkpoints without the need to
remove their shoes. |

Egis manages Roland Garros Airport extension in Reunion. Egis Avia and Egis Eau will manage the extension of aircraft parking, the creation of an heliport and the extension of taxiway Alpha.
They will also be in charge of the associated preliminary studies for the project of
providing assistance during procurement process and of
supervising the construction.
The study covers all modifications and necessary equipment associated to the apron
extension such as airport surface marking, lighting, drainage and rainwater collection.
The project is preparing the ground for the airport to accommodate
larger aircraft such as the A380 to start operating in Reunion as of 2014.

Egis Avia will design aeronautical pavement extension at
Abeche airport in Chad.
Part of this project consists in upgrading
aeronautical pavement and especially runway standards in order to accommodate code E
aircraft category such as Boeing B747-400.
ADAC selected Egis to conduct the preliminary and detailed design for this project.
Egis Avia will then be able to define a programme of associated upgrade works with limited
impact on current traffic. This will include excavation works, drainage as well as aeronautical
pavement and runway lighting adaptations. |

Toulouse-Blagnac airport, in the south-west France, has selected the IER Common-Use Self-service platform to propose self-check-in solution to its passengers. A series of IER 918 self-service kiosks is up and running since the beginning of March and the opening of the airport new D terminal. The IER 918 is the latest generation of CUSS Kiosks designed by IER to meet the new challenges in passenger travel and take advantage of emerging trends such as e-ticketing, 2D bar-coded boarding passes, the ability to read e-passports and to check-in airline passengers with or without bags.

Thales has been awarded a contract by the ASECNA (Agency for the Security of Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar) for the supply of 27 VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range, 13 Distance Measuring Equipment and 1 Doppler VOR systems to be deployed in 16 countries in Africa.

PROAVIA renewed its Board of Directors, with Jacques LAFAY (Steria) as President, Christine Riveau (Thales) as Vice President, Fernando Ribeiro (Thorn Airfield Lighting) as Treasurer and Philippe Vadon (GDF Suez Ineo) as Secretary.
Nice Cote d'Azur Airport and Vinci Energies also entered this year's Board of Directors.
The new Board decided to focus PROAVIA's action in 2010 to airport projects in Brazil and the Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, while continuing its work in China. |

The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) contracted Egis Avia to study the integration of a feature assessing gas emissions for the opti-misation of the ATCFM network operations. The objectives of the study are to:
- investigate the possible synergies with Emission model modules and tools already developed by Eurocontrol and their potential inclusion in air traffic flow organisation;
- develop an operational concept of the integration of the emission dimension in ATCFM network operations;
- draw up a business case and cost/benefit analysis of the project.

TAV recently asked Alstef to add a further extension to Istanbul Ataturk Airport's baggage handling system, which is due for completion in record time for summer 2010. With a capacity of 3600 bags per hour dedicated solely to baggage in transit, the extension includes 3 extra PEDS and 1 tomography machine for controlling inbound baggage prior to their dispatch to the sorter. The increase in sorting capacity will require 64 new automatic sortation chutes which will bring the total to 196. The SCADA system and the SAC installed in 1999 will be replaced by BAGWARE the new software package developed by Alstef. |

In the presence of Michelle Bachelet, the President of the Republic of Chile, the Chilean Civil Aviation Authority inaugurated Santiago's new ATC centre equipped by Thales. Thales has supplied, installed and commissioned the latest generation EUROCAT ATM system, the latest generation AERMAC aeronautical message switching system and a Voice Communication System.
Having built a solid partnership with the Chilean Civil Aviation Authority for more than 25 years, Thales is already a major provider of ATC systems in the country, which involves the air control centre in Santiago as well as the approach centres in Antofagasta, Iquique, Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas.
