The Congolese government signed with Egis a 25-year concession contract for the development, operation and maintenance of Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire and Ollombo International Airports. Egis Avia and Egis Projects will be the majority shareholders and reference technical partners of the concessionaire AERCO (Aéroports de la République du Congo). Thanks to this contract, Egis is strengthening its key-player position in the field of airport management in the world (Abidjan in Ivory Coast, Libreville in Gabon, Pafos and Larnaka in Cyprus). Egis is now operating 7 international airports and handles 11 million passengers and 200,000 tons of freight every year.

 

SmartGate, an automated border control system using facial recognition, is now available at Auckland International Airport in New Zealand. This launch is the first step of the new long term partnership signed between New Zealand Customs Service and Sagem Sécurité for the implementation of improved border control solutions. Accessible to New Zealand and Australian ePassport holders, SmartGate identifies travellers in real time using facial recognition from the photo stored in the chip of the ePassport.

 

The new Beirut offices of ADPI subsidiary company ADPI Middle East were officially opened today by French Minister of Economic Affairs, Industry and Employment Christine Lagarde as part of her official visit to Lebanon. With many successful prestige projects in the planning, architecture and engineering of airports and city centre developments, ADPI has grown very strongly over the last three years. This impressive growth includes a number of high-profile major projects in the Middle East, and confirms ADPI’s ambition to become the global benchmark company for architecture and engineering. It is in this context that ADPI set up a new subsidiary based in Beirutt. The choice of Beirut was prompted not only by its geographical location, but also because of the business status of the Lebanese capital and the fact that much of the renowned expertise of Lebanese engineering is based here.

 

Nexans has been awarded several contract to supply around 400 km of special cables for the extension or transformation of terminals at Dubai (UAE), Dublin (Ireland) and Doha (Qatar) international airports. The cables will provide power and control and equip the baggage handling systems (BHS). Nexans will supply halogen free fire-retardant power and control cables, as well as bus cables.

ADPI signed a contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Transport to carry out the development studies for a new international airport that will be built between the cities of Kerbala, Najaf and Babylon, south of Baghdad, in Iraq. The ambition of the Iraqi authorities is to develop airport facilities up to international standards to receive tourists and pilgrims (around 6 million passengers per year in the first phase with the ultimate objective of handling 30 million passengers). The ADPI contract covers the studies for the selection of the site, the master plan including an airport city, the detailed studies for the first development phase that will include a passenger terminal, a control tower, the runways and taxiways infrastructure, car parks, the functional and administrative buildings, a mosque, and a meteorological centre.

 

Abu Dhabi Airports Company will be installing the latest generation ATC systems from Thales as part of a USD6.8 billion development project to introduce ultra-modern airport facilities at Abu Dhabi International, including a visually spectacular 109 metre tall Air Traffic Control Tower, fully operational by 2010. Integrating EUROCAT air traffic management systems, this solution will allow controllers to share data on aircraft positions and to operate seamless handovers between territories.

 

Thales won a EUR30 million euros contract to develop a new civil aviation academy in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The academy will provide training for 500 trainees in air traffic control, maintenance of civil aviation systems and airport security. The Middle East and Gulf Arab region accounted for about 10 percent of the group's annual revenues with EUR1.1 billion.

 

Montreal Trudeau Airport in Canada awarded Alstef a 20-year contract for the operation and maintenance of its new US departures area.

 

Hub télécom and TIBCO were awarded contracts to equip Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport with RFID for the monitoring of its logistics operations.

 

IER launched its Local Partner Program to tailor solutions to customer's specific needs for its passenger and baggage processing solutions.

IER has received an order from AirIT for 46 additional self-service check-in kiosks to be installed at Mineta San Jose International Airport. The airport selected different kiosk configurations equipped with a swipe passport reader and a 2D barcode imager.
The IER 918 is the latest generation of Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosk designed to meet the latest trends in passenger travel such as e-ticketing, 2D bar-coded boarding passes, and the ability to check in passengers with or without bags. The solution supplied to Mineta San Jose International Airport also includes the IER CUSS platform for each kiosk.

ALSTEF has been awarded two contracts for baggage handling systems at Paris CDG airport. The first contract includes the design, supply and installation of 8 deposit lines and the modification of 4 carrousels as part of the re-organisation of the baggage delivery area in Terminal 2E. The second order includes the design, supply and installation of a new check-in island to be used by Easy Jet, as part of the preliminary works for the re-arrangement of the Terminal 2B. Automation device, security protection, fire protection and connection to the SCADA system are part of both contracts.

ADPI has been awarded a contract to manage the construction of Sohar, Al Duqm, Ras Al Hadd, Adam, Haima and Shalim regional airports in Oman. The airports are expected to be operational by the end of 2011. Sohar, Al Duqm and Ras Al Hadd airports will have the capacity to handle 500,000 passengers p/a, while Adam, Haima and Shalim airports will have the capacity to handle 250,000 passengers p/a. The airports are being constructed to boost tourism in the country.

 

Egis Avia provides a router for aeronautical telecommunications in Ethiopia
As the existing air traffic operational communications systems have become obsolete, the ICAO has issued recommendations to move from AFTN technologies to the new AMHS protocol. Egis Avia has long been contributing to this issue by offering a wide range of specific products addressing these needs.
The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority decided to implement a new ATN/AMHS system offering more efficient services to the countrys air navigation service provider and chose Egis Avia to provide its ProATN router and ATN Lower Layers End System software, integrated into the Radiocom's AMHS solution. Egis Avias services also include the commissioning and set-up of the system as well as training of operators and maintenance staff.

 

Egis Avia plans to invest EUR68 million in Paris Beauvais Tille Airport , including EUR14 million to acquire a Category III instrument landing system, to improve safety and minimise flight delays.

On the occasion of the Bourget Airshow, PROAVIA and a score of companies have met the official delegation of Mexico led by Mr. Humberto Treviño Landois, Secretary of State for Transport, along with Héctor González Weeks, Director General of Civil Aviation, Tort Gabriel Flores, Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation and Agustin Arellano Rodríguez, Director General of SENEAM. During this meeting, the Secretary of State presented the airport infrastructure projects in Mexico.
Organized jointly by PROAVIA and Promexico - Commercial Service of the Embassy of Mexico in France, this meeting also aimed to present French skills and new solutions in the areas of terminal design and greenbuilding and aviation safety. The standard-bearers ADP and THALES are present in Mexico since ADPM, a subsidiary of Aéroports de Paris, currently manages the airport in Monterrey and 12 other airports and Thales Air System equipped air traffic control of the country.

 

PROAVIA and French companies also met the official Chilean delegation visiting Le Bourget, led by General Huepe Perez, Director General of Civil Aviation, along with Mrs. Yazmin Balboa, Chilean Airports National Director and Miguel Di Lolo, Project Manager, Easter Island Airport. On this occasion, Ms Balboa presented the airport development projects and opportunities in Chile while ADPI presented the Masterplan of Santiago International Airport and the extension project of Mataveri International Airport on Easter Island.

 

IER has been selected by LFV Group, the Swedish airport operator, to deploy IER new generation self-service check-in kiosks at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. IER will supply a complete self-check-in solution including 45 self-service kiosks to be deployed in the three coming years, the IER CUSS platform and monitoring system and also an internet check-in access allowing passengers to check-in on the airlines’ internet sites.

 

Following a call for tender, Thales has been awarded funding from the SESAR JU (Single European Sky ATM Research Joint Undertaking) of around EUR 120 million for the development phase, making it the largest contributor after Eurocontrol. Thales has been selected to co-lead the three work packages dedicated to the development of the new generation of ATC systems, the system-wide information management system, which will be the backbone of the European ATM network, and of communication/navigation/surveillance (CNS) technologies. It will also contribute to the work packages dedicated to aircraft avionics systems and airport systems.

Ultra Electronics announced the acquisition of Tisys, an airport IT system business based in Annecy, France. Tysis will be merged into Ultra’s Information & Power Systems division.

 

Mauritian authorities have decided to expand Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam international airport by creating a new terminal with a 4 million passenger per year capacity. A double success for the international subsidiaries of Aeroports de Paris: ADPM (Aeroports de Paris Management) and ADPI (Aeroports de Paris Engineering). ADPM has been selected to finance, build and manage this new terminal jointly with Airport of Mauritius Ltd. ADPI has been chosen to carry out the design and engineering of this future terminal and its surrounding areaas well as the supervision for the construction of the new terminal and associated infrastructure.

IER has been selected by Siemens to equip Málaga Airport's new terminal with check-in and boarding equipment. The purchase order includes a total of more than 300 products selected from the IER portfolio of solutions for passenger check-in, baggage tag printing, and boarding control. Nearly 250 IER 506 boarding pass and bag tag printers will equip the new check-in counters and 17 IER 918 CUSS kiosks will be deployed for the self-service automated check-in operations. For the boarding process, 56 IER 600 will be installed at boarding gates.

 

Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has won a contract from Almabani to supply special airfield lighting cables for King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Almabani is the general contractor for the current airfield facilities upgrade project at KAIA that forms part of a major redevelopment of the airport to expand its capacity to 80 million passengers per year – including the capability to handle the new Airbus A380 Superjumbo aircraft.The Nexans contract includes the supply of some 1,500 km of 5 kV easy-to-install and watertight primary cables to connect the airfield power network to the lighting transformers located on the runways that power the airfield lights.

PROAVIA organized a two-day seminar in Dakar, Senegal on March 4-5 to meet AIBD (new Dakar airport) representatives and ASECNA (Agency for the Security of Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar). Egis Avia signed a contract on 25 March 2009 for the construction of a temporary air terminal in Es Senia Airport in Oran, Algeria. The Sonatrach / Activité Aval Group, the largest Algerian oil company contracted Egis Avia for the design and build of a temporary terminal in Oran’s Es Senia Airport, with the German Röder as joint contractor.

 

The NATO procurement agency NC3A1 awarded Thales a major contract to supply a comprehensive Air Traffic Management system. The contract includes its latest generation EUROCAT control centre, one co-mounted STAR 2000 - RSM970 Mode S radar, a precision approach radar provided by ITT Corporation, and a series of complementary Communications, Navigation and Surveillance equipment. This contract, which is already in force, will modernise NATO Kandahar air base’s current Navigation Surveillance and Air Traffic Management (ATM) capabilities, ensuring a significant improvement of safety and security vital to the success of NATO civil and military operations.

Egis Avia refurbishes Brazzaville Maya-Maya Airport in Congo.
Egis Avia designs the renovation of the existing movement areas, the construction of a new runway and its related taxiways and the extension of the military and passenger parking areas (aprons) at Maya-Maya airport in Brazzaville.

 

Thales completed Inverness Airport primary surveillance and monopulse secondary surveillance Mode S radar contract. Inverness Airport announced the placement of its new radar into operational service in January 2009 after approval from the UK safety regulator. Inverness will be one of the first UK airports to have an operational Mode S terminal radar. The new radar facility will allow Inverness Airport to accommodate the growing number of aircraft that operate with Mode S capability.

Ms. Marie CARRU, General Secretary of PROAVIA, was part of the Trade Mission to Tripoli, Libya organized by MEDEF, the French Business Confederation from 7th to 10th February 2009. Mr. Dominique Bussereau, French Minister of Transports, joined the French delegation. PROAVIA, which organized two airport seminars in Libya in 2005 and 2007, pursues its efforts in promoting French Airport Technology towards the Libyan Civil Aviation Authorities.

 

Thales has been awarded a contract by the Namibian Ministry of Works and Transport to supply the latest version of its EUROCAT control centre and one comounted primary and Mode S secondary radar for the Hosea Kutako International Airport. As prime contractor, Thales will also ensure the integration of a Wide Area Multilateration System covering the whole territory. The contract, already in force, will modernise Namibia’s current Navigation Surveillance and ATM capabilities, ensuring a significant improvement of safety and efficiency in Namibian airspace.
