Adpi signs contracts in Kazakhstan
Aéroports de Paris Ingénierie (Adpi) has won a contract to design the new terminal at Almaty Airport in Kazakhstan, central Asia. The futuristic design will copy the typical traditional tents used by nomadic people in the region. Made of wood and glass, the 32,000m² building will encompass three 'yurts' with room for more to be added. Initially it will have a passenger handling capacity of 2M per annum, scaleable up to 6M. The building is expected to be complete in two years.

Steria taxi management system at Heathrow
Steria
has been appointed by BAA to deploy a taxi management system at the new Heathrow Terminal 5. The new £4.3 billion development, due to open in March 2008, will cater for around 30 million passengers annually. The Steria solution will reduce taxi waiting times and enable the world’s leading airport company to control and track taxi access.
Steria currently provides its taxi management system for London Heathrow Terminals 1 to 4, which handles over 60 transactions per minute and has 95 interfaces, rising to 120 with Terminal 5. Collectively the Steria system is predicted to manage over 1 million taxi movements across all terminals by the opening of the 2012 London Olympics.

Norwegian Air Shuttle AS choses IER
Norwegian Air Shuttle AS - the low-cost airline based in Oslo, Norway - has chosen the next generation IER 918 CUSS kiosk to provide its passengers the benefits of self-check-in at 7 airports.
The IER 918 is a new generation of Common Use Self-Service kiosk designed to meet the latest trends in passenger travel such as e-ticketing, 2D bar coded boarding passes, the ability to read e-passports and to check-in passengers with or without bags.
Coming soon after the deployment of 35 IER 918 at the San Francisco International Airport (spring 2007), this installation of 53 IER 918 kiosks in Scandinavia is another confirmation that our CUSS solution is fully adapted to our customers needs and strengthens our leading position for the number of CUSS sites equipped worldwide. |

Ground services and equipment
For over 10 years, CIAT Airport Systems equipment has been used in airports to provide passengers with the comfort of PCA while their aircraft is at the gate. The system avoids the need for aircraft on the ground to use their APUs, which are noisy, polluting, and consume fuel. ‘PCA by CIAT', unlike the simple cooling generated by an APU, provides true air-conditioning. Air is filtered, dehumidified and diffused gently to provide passengers with greater comfort. PCA systems made by CIAT have been installed at Madrid, Brussels, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago de Chile, Prague, Palermo, Damascus, Aleppo, Geneva, Riga and Bergamo.

Focus on … Airport Meteorology

Measuring temperature and humidity : the main principles
Changes in air temperature occur for several reasons :
- the incidence of solar beams on the thermic masses other than air (the phenomena increases as they approach the ground)
- the moving of the atmosphere
- the shocks between water molecules which generate extremely high energy exchanges
Humidity is everywhere, it is mainly due to solar beams warming up the earth's surface and causing water evaporation in the atmosphere.
The humidity measured is relative, it corresponds to the amount of water present in a particule of air compared to the maximum amount of water this same particule of air can contain.
In climatology, the classical way to measure temperature and airhumidity is done using a shelter. The use of a meteorological shelter must enable the hygrothermic balance between the air inside and outside. This hygrothermic balance creates the best conditions, so as to have an accurate measurement, whilst protecting the sensors from precipitation and any disturbing influence from solar beams.
For measuring temperature, Degreane Horizon proposes a global offer, which may include probes (for example PT 100 ¼ DIN probe) – approved by, amongst others, Météo France.
For measuring humidity, Degréane Horizon includes well-known probe manufacturers in its offer, which are usually approved at by international meteorological services. Some of these probes can do the two measurements. The shelters sold by Degréane Horizon are approved of and used by Météo France and many other National Meteorological Services.
