PROVIDING COMPLETE AIRSPACE SECURITY
As a world leader in Air Traffic Management and security solutions, Thales is a major industrial player in the civil aviation area. Thales provides end to-end solutions to enhance the security of airport operations, aircraft passengers and crew, as well as air traffic management. Thales solutions include communications, navigation and surveillance technologies for tracking and monitoring aircraft trajectories.
In addition, Thales offers security databases fed by multi-sensor networks for an improved threat analysis on the airport platform.

AIR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
With global experience in providing control centres, Thales offers the complete spectrum of control facilities needed throughout all phases of en-route, terminal area, approach and airport operations. Today, Thales systems are recognised as the industry standard. The EUROCAT air traffic management system is one such example, with more than 260 centres in operation worldwide, equivalent to 4,000 controller positions.

Navigation
Air traffic safety depends on a vast infrastructure of ground-based air navigation equipment. As a leading worldwide manufacturer of Navigation and Airport Solutions, Thales with its large range of products provides complete capability for safe navigation, take-off and landing of aircraft. Navigation and Airport Solutions include ground-based solutions:
• landing systems (Instrument Landing System; Microwave Landing System);
• en-route navigation (VOR, DVOR, DME, TACAN),
• and latest satellite technologies such as Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS) for take-off and landing and Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) for en-route to approach (the European EGNOS program).

Surveillance
The surveillance products and systems range includes primary and secondary en-route and terminal control radars, and ground surveillance radars for airports.
With 1,000 operational air traffic control radars are installed worldwide, a testimony of “Joint Radar Sensors” expertise in the surveillance domain: Thales's centres of excellence for radar technology.

Communications
Each solution is bespoke to the specific features of the customers needs by selecting one or a combination of the most adapted communication technologies, such as means of managing controller - pilots communications or ground-ground and airground communication networks based on digital technologies. The Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) protocol recommended by ICAO is already considered in the systems developed by Thales.

AIR TRAFFIC ALLIANCE
The Air Traffic Alliance(*) addresses the air transport operators' needs for a seamless, interoperable air transport system. One of the Air Traffic Alliance's objectives is to drive the implementation of both a pragmatic and an innovative ATM modernisation programme, leading to the rapid deployment of a network-integrated ATM system in support of the Single European Sky while being fully interoperable with other regions of the world.

AIRPORT SOLUTIONS
In the airport area, Thales has developed essential tools for enhancing airport efficiency and safety.
Thales meets the customer challenge by continually improving and opening up its system architectures allowing systems to be interoperable. With STREAMS (Surface Traffic Enhancement & Automation Support), Thales provides a modular and scalable system supporting movement of aircraft and vehicles on an airport surface. STREAMS can be implemented as a stand alone system or integrated as a part of an overall aerodrome air traffic control (ATC) system. With TECOS (Terminal COordination System), Thales supplies a flight data processing system designed for use in tower and apron control providing an integrated planning and management tool for the terminal area and the airport's surface.

AIRPORT SECURITY
Risk assessment
Effective threat management requires an assessment of risks and vulnerabilities, and a security strategy enabling the implementation of automated and network- enabled security systems. Thales provides security audits and planning.
Safety and Security Integration
1 Safety solutions include the integration to the critical airport information management systems, building management systems, public address as well as alarms, fire control and airfield safety systems to secure against collision or incidents on airside.
2 Security solutions lay essentially in the combination of access control, video-surveillance and anti-intrusion solutions integrated with safety and airport information systems via a network.
3 Secured networks for voice, data, video support the transportation of sensors, systems and IT architectures information.
4 Security supervision and management centres enable to receive, manage and classify alerts, authenticate and authorise access and instruct security resources for action. These supervision systems give operators through a clear and concise picture of the situation full awareness to assess threats captured by various types of sensors.

Thales provides a complete range of solutions for airports
1 Airside security and safety
2 Landside (passenger and cargo terminals) security and safety
3 Access and perimeter security

CUSTOMER SERVICE
Customer Service is focused on providing through-life support for the traffic management, control and security systems, guaranteeing that they stay operational and making sure they evolve in line with traffic growth and new global safety requirements. Thales's Customer Service teams have a local presence on all five continents.
Three new support centres in Singapore, the Gulf and Latin America offer customers robust logistic support and a stronger local presence.
