LORD Ingénierie is contributing to the airport’s runways’ security with its TOM500 and LEM50, two laser birds repellent systems, developed for the DGAC (french civil aviation authority).
TOM500 and LEM50 are the only worldwide systems using a Green Laser beam. After long studies made on birds by Mr BRIOT (Ornithologist specialized in bird strike at the DGAC), the conclusion was that birds’ eyes are more sensitive to the green colour.
TOM500 is an automatic system, scanning the runways with a low height laser beam, and frightening the birds away thanks to its “stick effect”. The laser beam’s specifications guaranty a complete ocular safety.
TOM500 integrates a numerical system of trajectory calculation. It can memorize up to 4 trajectories which can be executed in continuous, sequentially or randomly. TOM500 has been tested during years on several civil or military airports, and no visual hindrance has been reported from the pilots, during daytime or at night. There is no habituation on birds.
One system has been installed for more than 1 year at MONTPELLIER Airport, and NO collision has been noted while TOM500 was functioning.
LEM50 is a handheld Laser Torch, it is very efficient at dawn, at dusk, and when outdoor light is limited.
There is no need to use other noisy and expensive means to frighten birds at these times of day.
LEM50 is an economic system, cartridges budget can be reduce by several thousands of Euros per year.
LEM50 is a silent material, no more nuisance due to the use of pyrotechnic means.
